Happy New Year, Reader!
I am SO looking forward to all that will be in 2024! My 2023 was filled with loss, major life and family adjustments, and lots and lots of learning - some of it the hard way. I know that 2024 will have its share of changes, but I’m excited about the ones I see on the horizon.
I don’t do resolutions, but each January I spend time reflecting on the past year and considering what I want to stop, what I want to start, and what I want to continue in the major arenas that make up a life. It gives me a lot of clarity about what energizes me and what drains the life out of me, and helps me formulate the actions I need to take to have more of the good feels.
I want to share one thing with you that I’m very excited about that I know is going to help so many families with queer and ally kids. Very soon I’m launching what, as far as I can find, will be the first comprehensive online camp directory specifically for LGBTQ+ affirming summer camps: Queer Camp Fair!
This is not the first time I’ve created an online resource for families. Waaaay back in 1997, I created Family NetSource and I will humble brag that the Washington Post referred to it as, “the most comprehensive resource for families in Montgomery County, MD.” So why am I going back to something that I did more than 17 years ago? Because families need it!
My entire career has been about connecting people with the information and resources they need and I’m hearing loud and clear that families want and need to find safe, affirming, and fantastic summer experiences for their queer and ally kids. They don’t want to worry and wonder if their kids will be seen and valued for their authentic selves. They want their kids to be free and safe to make new friends and have great adventures. And camps are looking for families that share the same vision for the amazing growth experience and joy that camp allows without having to explain the whys about cabin and bathroom assignments. Camps need families and families need camp. Queer Camp Fair will bring camps and families together in a safe, easy-to-use platform to make the camp search a joy, not a drain.
I’ll share more soon but know that I’m working with a great team to bring Queer Camp Fair to life as quickly as we can because summer will be here sooner than we expect. I know Queer Camp Fair is going to help so many families - and that is something that I absolutely want to continue doing because it’s what gives me tremendous energy and joy!
Reader, as always, I am grateful that you welcome me into your inbox. Is there something you need to discuss right away?

Hello, Reader! I’m writing this from my new home in Lebanon, Ohio! For the past several weeks I’ve been unpacking and learning my way around this charming town that was literally selected as the most charming town in Ohio! Why Ohio? Well, the short answer is that my significant other is from the area and much of his extended family is here. Our kids are scattered on both coasts, so this puts us right in the middle of everyone. We are right in-between Cincinnati and Dayton and there is a great...

That's how I've been feeling for the past month as I worked to launch Queer Camp Fair! And now the work continues as we spread the word to families looking for your camp! Enhanced listings make it easier for families to easily learn about your camp! A huge thank you to the first round of camps to claim and update their camp listings! Camp Hawkeye Ghostlight Theater...
Hello Reader! WOOOHOOOOO!!!! Queer Camp Fair is launched!!! Sending a HUGE Thank You!! to Anna Empey and her amazingly talented team who hacked a pre-built system beyond what it was created to do to make this vision come to life! Anna knows first-hand how important this site will be for queer kids and their families. She says, Anna Empey "Having safe places and obvious visibility is so important for queer people. I know that if I had known supportive places and experiences were safe for me to...
