Hello, Reader! I’m writing this from my new home in Lebanon, Ohio! For the past several weeks I’ve been unpacking and learning my way around this charming town that was literally selected as the most charming town in Ohio! Why Ohio? Well, the short answer is that my significant other is from the area and much of his extended family is here. Our kids are scattered on both coasts, so this puts us right in the middle of everyone. We are right in-between Cincinnati and Dayton and there is a great deal to do and explore! When we were deciding where to settle I knew I would have to adjust to reality that we would be moving from a consistently blue area of the country (with some red pockets), to a very red county in a red state (with some blue pockets). If you have met me, you know I like to participate in changemaking and when I learned that Lebanon will be hosting its first-ever Pride Festival this summer, I knew this was the spot to land. Change is often good, and with a change in venue I've been marinating on the work that I do, and trying to figure out how to easily explain to folks all that I do. I love working to support parents of LGBTQ+ kids to become supportive allies, and Parent with C.A.R.E. is at the heart of what I do. Queer Camp Fair is up and running, uniting affirming camps and families every day. But I have also been doing quite a few trainings and workshops for companies, organizations, and government agencies and have felt I need a more descriptive name and title that can incorporate allllll of the things. So, very soon you will start hearing from me under a new business name: Queer Allyship, LLC and my new title will be, Queer Allyship Facilitator! This is what I do: I specialize in compassionately empowering individuals to gain a deep awareness of LGBTQ+ identities. By providing specific tools and fostering transformative mindset shifts, I respectfully guide them on their journey to becoming the affirming and empathetic allies that the queer community rightfully deserves. All of this remains grounded in my C.A.R.E. process: Compassion, Awareness, Respect, and Empathy. I will continue to provide information and resources that are relevant to parents of queer kids, but in order to fulfill my mission to make communities safe for queer people everywhere I know that there are many others who support in becoming allies. And I need your help to connect with them! If you are a parent, a business owner, a human resources manager, or anyone who knows that more support is needed to become an ally to queer folks, or to become a stronger ally, then I’m your person. Curious? Let’s take some time to talk about it, schedule a free call with me!
